Apologies if this is the wrong place and I've broken any rules but I just ran 3 1/2 miles and I'm stoked and I felt I needed to tell someone!
I started my new job in January after graduating from uni last year and my body has really taken a beating over the last 5 years. I'm 6'3 and have always been heavy (not so much wobbly fat more big with a belly) but I recently hit the 20 stone mark after floating between 17 1/2 and 19 1/2 since I left school at 18. Lots of drinking lots of smoking and lots of fun haven't been great but I could always get through a rugby match only throwing up once at the beginning. Anyway, I started work and I've felt disgusting since. Sitting at a desk all day, only lunch options are Greggs McDonald's KFC etc and then being too tired in the evenings to make any healthy lunches. I bought some new jeans yesterday and I've now got a 40" waist. I have a proper middle aged mans beer belly and my double chin has tripled.
I started playing squash twice a week two weeks with the barman of my local pub (classic), and he's now become a friend. Got my gym membership on Thursday after we played and planned to go tonight. Ran to the gym as the sun was setting over the Somerset hills and thought 'you can do this KingofJesmond' and just kept on running. Had a Rocky moment struggling up a hill heaving and hoing but got to the top and it was glorious. The setting sun was streaming over this fantastic old tree on its own at the top and I could see for miles over the West Country countryside.
Then I threw up. And three up. But I ran on. And walked. And ran. And walked. And ran. And walked and ran and walked and ran all the way home down the country lanes. I checked my route when I got home and I ran (and staggered) for over 3 1/2 miles.
It was brilliant. Thanks r/getmotivated for the motivation. I'm determined to get back down to 17 1/2 stone by the summer, and id love to get back to a 36" waist. Apologies if I've made any faux pas in writing this. Peace x
