Sorry for the longish post. TL:DR at bottom.
I would like to pursue the career of electrical engineering. I did very poorly in school, so I have a lot of re-learning to do. I was just reviewing the things you learn in math and English from grades 7-12, and realized I don't know how to do even half of it. Not that I don't remember, as in I never learned in the first place.
So I have about a year before I begin doing my high school upgrading. I don't know if that's enough time to learn everything I am missing up to the courses I am going to retake (Math 11+12, English 11+12, Physics and Chemistry).
I need to ace my math to get into university for engineering. The other courses have a C+ acceptable grade. So I've been practicing my math foundations for the past couple weeks. I don't know if a year is long enough to learn everything before I do my upgrading though.
I haven't even started on my English, chemistry, or physics learning. English will probably be the most difficult for me.
Should I just do what I can over the next year, and hope all goes well when I retake my high school courses? Or should I just keep practicing in my own time until I'm 100% ready to upgrade? Even if it takes me 2 years of self learning?
Also, does the 1 year before upgrading, plus 1 year of upgrading, plus 4-5 years (6-7 years total) seem like a stupid amount of time to reach my goals? I'm 27. I have a lot of passion for my goal of electrical engineering and pursue my goals daily. So I know it's what I truly want in life. Input, suggestions, your two cents please?
TL:DR: Facing 6-7 years or more of time to upgrade high school courses and go to university for electrical engineering. I am 27. I have great passion for this goal and pursue it daily. Is it worth doing at my age even if it take 6-7+ years to accomplish? Can I still retire happily starting a job at 34-35 with no savings thus made?
