[Discussion] Have we reached the point where you can predict exactly what the advice will be for people who feel so overwhelmed by all the things they want to do that they end up doing nothing?

Almost weekly there are posts in this thread about someone who has done nothing all week, but wants to do a lot of things. The most upvoted advice will be a variation on breakdown your over-arching ambition into manageable stages, create a list, stick to completing it in stages etc... It's not that that isn't sound advice but has been but has so often been stated, that repeating it seems a bit redundant and like a form of procrastination for whoever is writing it out. Also it bothers me to see so much "I" "me" and advice that encourages people to focus on themselves. If you feel like you are not achieving anything but constantly thinking about what you could be doing. Start thinking about other people and what you can do for them instead. Not only will this break your cycle of unproductive self-loathing it will straight-forwardly reveal concrete things you could be doing with your time. They won't be glamorous things like writing a novel; starting your own business; or getting into peak physical condition. They're more likely to be along the lines of talk to a lonely neighbour or relative, clean up your neighbourhood; volunteering at a local whatever, but in my experience it is people whose instincts are such considerations who seem to have found a degree of genuine contentment. "Self-improvement" as discussed in a good deal of motivational literature strikes me as a rabbit hole in comparison.
