[Discussion] Feeling guilty about not getting anything done? One solution is integrity.

You have to have integrity.

If you say you're going to do something, you simply must do it. It's that, or try to quickly get out of it with yourself so it doesn't become a commitment.

Example, every other day I do either 100 pushups or 100 squats. First I tell myself I will do the 100 pushups today, and then I do them, but I never tell myself I will do it unless I know I can start doing it within the next hour or so.

If you do the thing, you will feel like you are on the right track. You need forward momentum with small things before you commit to anything big. So, say you're a reclusive, shy person, and you want to start talking to girls more. You can't tell yourself you're going to talk to a girl today yet. You have to build this daily confidence first, by building up your integrity and your relationship with yourself.

Once you have this momentum, your integrity will feel strong, and you can try to make bigger daily goals, but only if you KNOW you can do them, and only if you will do them soon. Example, don't commit to going to bed at 11pm as soon as you wake up. Make that commitment at 10pm, or 9pm.

The momentum can build in such a way that your small goals can become big ones.

Beware, though. If you make a commitment to anything like this, a serious commitment, and you DON'T follow through, it is all too easy to feel guilt and shame. Why? Because you have ruined your integrity. Let's think of integrity like a builder would think about the integrity of a building:

(integrity, defined by the builder) The condition of being free from damage or defect. "The building has structural integrity."

Integrity is an integral part of self-confidence. If you know you can't rely on yourself, then you will get all these negative things, negative self-talk, and anxiety and other emotions. The absolute KEY is integrity. It is also key to not commit to any goal that you can't or won't do, even if you want to do something. If you don't commit to it, at least your integrity isn't damaged if you don't accomplish what you set out to do.
