[discussion] help me figure out if i should switch therapists or not

pretty basic. i wonder if i should switch therapists.

Background-- i come from an abusive background. physically abusive father died when i was 13, mother kept emotionally abusing us (actually she still is abusing my siblings, but i cut off contact after she disowned me and forgot about it)

i'm pretty smart, and i studied enough psycology and sociology to actually have a pretty good understanding of what my issues are, but i'm habitually addicted to depression, and i spiral out pretty often.

i have government funded health care, in my area that means i can go to one therapy center for free, and i really want to figure this out as much as possible, so i started to go.

a couple of weeks in, and it's just hanging out with a social worker. i didnt know she was a social worker, and not a EBT therapist like they told me i would be getting, until this last week. Now i'm not saying i want to be bawling at every session, but i actually think that would be totally reasonable. I don't feel like i'm getting anything out of this, and she doesn't seem to think i need to be there.

i know that it takes a while to get established with someone, ect, but i feel like i'm wasting my time and energy. going in, in the first place, creates this scary stress, and not getting much out of the actual sessions is draining me even more.

Should i stick it out for a while?

Should i just switch because i don't think this is going anywhere?

Am i wrong in thinking that i'm better off with a therapist than a social worker? i'm not addicted to heroin, and i'm not going to kill myself, even if i wish i was dead, so she seems to think there is nothing wrong with me. compared to a lot of other people there, there really isnt much wrong with my life.
