[Story] Anything is possible if you keep your head up

So just to give you guys some context about what's been happening in my life; I am a University student and I've been looking for an apartment to live in near my school instead of commuting for 3+ hours a day. The past few months were pretty rough mostly due to my father's death, as he was a huge part of the family, and our only source of income to support us. Anyways, so my Real Estate agent contacts me and informs me about an apartment he found nearby the school. He gives me the number of the man who is currently renting it and tells me to call him and schedule a viewing. So I go ahead and dial his number on my phone and we schedule a viewing. The strange thing is that when I answered the phone ans spoke in English, he was speaking completely normally, but when I switched to my native language (that I'm not that good with) his tone and voice completely switched from being formal and harsh to being welcoming and sweet.

A few hours pass by and I walk to the apartment near the University and I meet the man (His clothes were old and dirty that he almost looked homeless), which seemed to be around his 50s. He welcomed me with a big smile on his face, but a really weird posture with his arms being close to his body as he shook his head that I found really sad because it just appeared to me that something bad has happened to him due to his posture.

So we go into the building and as he unlocks the door to the apartment, all I saw was a huge mess everywhere. I had to pay attention to where I was putting my feet so I don't step on anything. I thought the bathroom and kitchen would also be dirty but they were both so clean. He told me that the place is like that because he has nobody living with him and he works the majority of the time so he usually just has time to rest and get ready for the next day. I thought to myself at that moment "damn, I don't want my life turning out like this."

Anyways, he showed me around the small apartment, and I really liked it. We then discussed the utilities, local area, etc, and I very much liked the place. So, as I was walking back, I notice an old typewriter laying at the corner of one of his cabinets and I ask him about it, he said that he really likes collecting old items/machines, which led him to show me his collection of small old items, which is a little hobby he had for the past 20 years. He said that he "goes and buys one item every week to keep him busy, that's either by walking to a local shop, finding someone on the street, or having to travel a few kilometers to obtain that one item, I just do that since I have no wife and nothing else to do." So after he has finished showing me his collection, we both started walking to the exit and he was telling about how he knows about my father's death and how much it impacted my life and he simply just said that "that's life, but it doesn't mean you have to stop yourself from living it. I lost my mother when I was two years old, and my father 5 years later, and since then, all I've been doing is working to this day, now look at me. So what can you do, crying and beating yourself over it won't fix it, but it'll make it worse so just do your thing and be happy."

He has had nobody for the past 50 or so years, but yet again, he has been one of the happiest people I've met, living a simple life. I personally did not even think that was really possible, but he has definitely proved me wrong.

Moral of the story is that there will always be a way for you to be happy as long as you go ahead and act upon it. It's still a mystery to how he has achieved such a state, but from the looks of it, it appears that a lot of pain and sorrow was involved.

I hope this cheered someone up out there, I'm not feeling well so I decided to write this for you guys. Just keep in mind that there's always a way to anything. <3
