[Discussion] Conflicting messages on achievements

Hey /r/GetMotivated I've been unmotivated for a long time. I used to enjoy programming a few decades back, but I don't anymore. I would compare myself to others who could accomplish so much more than me and who learned faster than me that it all felt pointless. I couldn't keep up and no one would want me.

Now I know some people here will say that you shouldn't compare yourself to others and that you should be happy with improving at your own pace.

On the other hand some articles that have really resonated with my lately have all stated that a hobby where you don't contribute to some community, or an achievement made in a vacuum is meaningless and will feel empty.

Who is right? Should I keep trying to be happy for my meager progress or should I give up because I'm not good enough to contribute to something larger?
