For as long as I can remember, I've always been very skinny. I don't eat much and I spent a ridiculously large amount of time on the computer (12 hours+ on a normal day). Last year, I put a few workout equipments on my Christmas list and decided that my new years resolution would be to reach a healthy weight and feel better about myself.
I'm a 5'6 male, 19yo. When I began, I was 114lbs (healthy is 128lbs), spending 12 hours a day on a computer, eating 1 meal or less a day.
For the first month or so, I had very bad progress. I couldn't lift more than 30lbs off my chest, I was having trouble finishing 4x10 4lbs curls. I could only deadlift 50lbs. After about 3 months of doing these weights without a solidified schedule and getting very little results, I gave up for the next 6 months.
One day a friend visited and made a joke about my working out without results and it hit me hard, especially since I was going another year without fulfilling my resolution.
Feeling bad, I forced myself into eating 3 times a day with 2 snacks in between. I couldn't stomach it and would get sick after each meal, but after a week or so my body became more used to it. I found getting into the workout was way easier when I had the extra energy from eating.
For the next three months, I've been working out on a schedule, 5 days a week. I went from 116lbs in September to 133lbs on New year's. I can bench 160lbs, I can deadlift about 200, I can curl 70lbs. I also added a pull up bar to my equipment and I went from struggling after 4 to being able to do 20 without issue. I've also dropped my online time from 12 hours daily to less than 6. I now have a decent posture, I feel more confident about myself, and I no longer feel embarrassed at the concept of myself working out. I still need to improve there, but I'm happy with where I've come.
I have no progress pics because I didn't take the resolution seriously at first, I'm not allowed to post them here anyways.
This is the first year I've ever actually completed my New year's resolution, and I did it all in the last 3 months of the year. I wanted to make this post not only to tell people that I did it, but to let others know that it's possible if you put in the dedication.
